Knights Requiring Assistance
28 September 11
For those that do not know, GK64 chapter member and wife of our Chapter 64 Vice President Samantha Smith lost her father this past weekend. Her father had been struggling with Congestive Heart Failure problems and the accumulated medical bills have left her mother in a bad financial situation. The situation is so bad that her mother will be losing her home.
Those friends and family in the local area are being asked to help by contributing time and effort to prepare the house for sale. For those not in the local area, Samantha has asked that for anyone who wishes to help to donate money in lieu of sending cards or flowers.
Green Knights Chapter 64 is taking up a collection to help Samantha's mother. If you would also like to contribute, funds can be sent via PayPal to: vyscera@hotmail.com. If you do not have a PayPal account and would like to contribute, email the hotmail address above and ask how you can mail your contribution.
Thank you to our fellow brothers and sisters of the Green Knights MMC.

A little more information from Shari:
"Let me give you a little more for the post, George and I have been together not quite a year. He too is an avid rider, we have had some of the most incredible rides in the Santa Cruz hills.
After some shared flu like symptoms, his was different only with night sweats. I finally talked him into going to the doctors. He requested some base line tests, like we all should have. His Acute Myeloid Leukemia was discovered with a common CBC blood count. Thankfully it was discovered, because without treatment we would have had about four months together before I lost him.
Within a week, on February 7th, 2011, he was hospitalized in Stanford Cancer Center and diagnosed with a rare form of it. He has undergone two rounds of chemo, and very neutropenic. He is recovering from Colitus, as well. He is still undergoing treatment and does not know, when he will be released.
I have been an civil service civilian for 30 years. Hopefully that gives you a little more to go on. We have been thinking about making a paypal account for anyone wanting to donate funds, but have not yet."

All, we have a fellow Knight in need. Shari M. Sevier, Chapter 24 President of Travis AFB, is a civil servant who is in need of some donated leave time. Here is what Shari has to say in her own words:
"I am not bashful and I could use some help, I am being qualified for the leave donor program, is there any way you can disseminate to the other chapters that I could use some leave donated?
If so there is a form available at civilian personnel. Have them put my name in the box: Shari M. Sevier
Here is the latest update on my husband George. George has made it through two rounds of chemo, he is neutropenic (it means his whole immunity system has been wiped out and it also means that a simple cold could kill him), they are giving him shots to try and convince his body to start producing bone marrow to then produce blood.
He has now been hospitalized since the 7th of Feb, with no mention of when he might be getting out. We have to do consolidation therapy after that and that means more chemo, more time in the hospital, etc. Anything you can do is appreciated."
If you can help, please donate civilian leave time to Shari so she can be by George's side during these difficult times.
